An existing warehouse with adjacent office building is being converted into a larger office. The existing 1-storey office building volume will be demolished and replaced by a new 2-storey building volume. The storage shed will be retained, but with a new facade it will connect to the office and together form a unity.
The unity is enhanced by the continuous sloping roof shape that continues downwards at the side walls and even creates an entrance platform on the floor.
The wooden facade goes from a closed warehouse to a semi-open facade with vertical slats to the open glass front behind which the high entrance hall is located.
The sloping roof landscape protrudes further at the office entrance and thus emphasizes the covered entrance.
Due to the privacy of surrounding buildings, only the front of the office can be fitted with a large glass front. In order to allow sufficient daylight into the office, two outdoor patios have been ‘cut’ from the office volume. By organizing the workspaces around the green outdoor patios, not only a bright space is created, but also a green natural working environment with openness and access to fresh air.
A large multifunctional staircase connects the ground floor with the first floor. At the top of the stairs is a meeting room with a view to an outdoor patio with a green wall behind it. This line of sight provides a view through the entire length of the building.
